MEETING

Root Over Rock
at the
Pittsburgh Garden Place
Fifth and Shady Avenues
This month's program will be a follow up to last September's Root Over Rock program. Those who did "Root Over Rock’ plantings are asked to bring them to this months’ meeting, where they will be checked and cut back. Those who wish to do another rock planting will be able to.
As a follow up to last month’s meeting, we will also have some live trees, which need air layering, for those who wish to try their newly learned skills on a live tree.
Please bring your bonsai tools along with a hammer, chisel or old screwdriver and a sharp pen knife.
Spot Lite Trees: Anyone bringing a tree to a meeting will receive an extra door prize ticket. If you bring the type of tree being discussed, you will receive two door prize tickets instead of one. You are certainly welcome to bring other items (recently acquired interesting accessories, stands, pots, etc.) to show other members at the meeting.
Newsletter copies: Anyone who would like to send a complimentary copy of the newsletter to an interested person, give their name and address to Howard Shifrin.
Newsletter information: Anyone wishing to make an announcement or contribute to the newsletter call or email Howard Shifrin at shifrin@msn.com

WEST VIRGINIA COLLECTING TRIP
SATURDAY, APRIL 15TH
There will be a society sponsored collecting trip in conjunction with the Morgantown West Virginia Bonsai Society on Saturday, April 15th. The list of possible species we will be collecting at a West Virginia farm include Hawthorn, Hornbeam, and Crabapple. This is not the same place as last year.
Due to limited space, those interested in going need to call Mark Wazeneggar to check availability of space and to sign up. Those who are signed up will meet at the greenhouse on the WVU campus at 9:00 AM. From there we will proceed to the collecting site. Directions to the WVU greenhouse are as follows:
1. Take Interstate 79 South to Morgantown.
2. Get off at the Star City Exit (it will also say West Virginia University)
3. Turn left off the exit ramp.
4. Proceed under the Interstate.
5. Go approximately another half mile.
6. Bear right and proceed across the Star City bridge.
7. Right after the bridge you will come to a traffic light. Notice a Wendy’s on your left after you cross the bridge.
8. Proceed up the hill (notice Texas Roadhouse on the right and Shoney’s on the left).
9. Continue to the next traffic light (notice funny, round shaped building on your right - this is WVU Coliseum).
10. Proceed to the third traffic light and turn left.
11. You will now be entering the campus of WVU. Continue bearing to the right as you proceed up a small hill. Continue right, which will take you on a peripheral route around several buildings. When you come to the 4-way stop (total distance of about 1 mile after you turn left at 3rd light), look for WVU greenhouses - across the intersection and on the right. Please park in the parking lot directly across from the greenhouse entrance and enter through the front door. Members of MBS will be there to greet you.
