REGULAR MEETING

WEDNESDAY, JULY 19TH at 7:00 PM

PITTSBURGH GARDEN PLACE

FICUS WORKSHOP

The hot summer months are the perfect time to work on tropical tree species, including root work and potting. (Unlike their hardy counter parts of colder climates.) Therefore, this months’ meeting will be a workshop, where we will be working on ficus trees that we acquired from a Homestead, Florida supplier.

These are dwarf ficus trees with 1 1/2 to 2 inch trunks, especially grown for bonsai. There will be a fifteen
dollar charge for each tree. Pots and supplies will be available for you to complete your bonsai creation. At this point we have ordered 25 trees.

This should be a very rewarding experience for all those who participate. Hope to see you there.

Mark Wazennegar, President

UPCOMING EVENTS

August 12th Flea Market:

This year the August event will be a Flea Market at Keith Scott’s house at 7910 Lincoln Road, Verona, PA 15147. If you have any bonsai items you would like to sell, bring them to the Flea market. A five dollar charge for sellers will benefit the Pittsburgh Bonsai Society. Dealers are welcome and encouraged to come. The society will provide drinks and light refreshments. To make it more of a picnic atmosphere, anyone who wishes to bring a food item may do so.

October 14th Collecting Trip:

We are exploring several possibilities for collecting sites. Anyone with access to an old farm field, that has been growing over for many years, or other potential collecting sites that society members could utilize, please contact Mark Wazennegar or any society board member.

Membership assistance in this matter will assure a successful trip and will be greatly appreciated.

Spot Lite Trees: Anyone bringing a tree to a meeting will receive an extra door prize ticket. If you bring the type of tree being discussed, you will receive two door prize tickets instead of one. You are certainly welcome to bring other items (recently acquired interesting accessories, stands, pots, etc.) to show other members at the meeting.

Newsletter copies: Anyone who would like to send a complimentary copy of the newsletter to an interested person, give their name and address to Howard Shifrin.

Newsletter information: Anyone wishing to make an announcement or contribute to the newsletter call or email Howard Shifrin at shifrin@msn.com
